Dietetics

Registered Dieticians are the only qualified health professionals that are able to assess, diagnose and treat diet and nutrition problems at an individual and wider public health level.

Our Dietician will use a whole range of techniques to assess your nutritional status. From this we will be able to work out your own personal nutrition needs and suggest simple and practical ways of making appropriate lifestyle and food choices. We will also use the most up to date research to inform our clinical practice.

Our Dietician will take into account all the different factors, which influence your food choices and will work with you to agree a personal food and nutrition action plan that is just for you.

The aim of dietetic treatment is to help you make positive food choices that promote long -term health rather than a ‘quick fix.’

Initial assessment

On your first visit you will be asked to fill in a form highlighting your condition / nutrition concerns. Our Dietician will take down a history of your condition plus any other medical conditions you may have and any medications you may be taking.

A diet history will then be taken from you which is really a description of what you normally eat in a ‘typical’ day and other foods / drinks eaten on a regular basis.

Our Dietician may also ask to take your height and weight at the initial visit.

Advice is then provided on the best way forward for you. This may include keeping a food / lifestyle diary for a few days to bring back with you to your next appointment.

Our Dietician Dr Anne Walker RD is registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and the British Dietetic Association

Nutrition and dietetics is concerned with promoting health and preventing disease through sound nutrition. The aim of treatment is to help you make positive lifestyle choices that are acceptable to you and fit in with your life. What we eat has a large role to play in terms of our health both now and in the long term. Good nutrition can help prevent health problems in the future and also make us feel great now!

Our Dietician aims to work as a team, between you and her. It does take a commitment from you to work with the treatment and advice provided.

If you are unsure of anything, please ask.
