Women’s Health Physiotherapy involves strengthening and re-training your pelvic floor muscles to their best function – even if you already do pelvic floor exercises. It is possible to have strong pelvic floor muscles, but not to be using them in the right manner or the right time. Bladder re-training is also an important aspect of the treatment that we concentrate on. We may use equipment as appropriate to maximise your treatment success. This can include biofeedback devices that assess how well your muscles are working and also electrical stimulation to assist poorly functioning muscles. As part of the treatment you may be asked to fill in bladder charts or a diary for a few days to assist with analysing and management your condition.

On your first visit you will be asked to fill in a form highlighting your problem and your general contact details. Your first appointment with your specialist physiotherapist will be an assessment. It is important to find out about you, your lifestyle and any other medical problems before you start your treatment. You will be offered an internal examination to check how your muscles are working. The procedures will be explained to you before we start and you will be asked to give your consent for treatment. Afterwards the results of your examination will be discussed with you and the treatment planned. Referrals We accept referrals from a range of sources. You are welcome to refer yourself without seeing your GP. We accept referrals through health policies and we provide receipts for Medicash.
